Fly Fishing in Worcester
Bransford Game Fisheries comprise three picturesque pools, with superb views down the Teme valley in the heart of Worcestershire. The Island Pool (the Catch and Release Pool), is Spring-fed, whilst the Lodge and Walton Pools are replenished from a subterranean reservoir of Malvern Spring Water. The presence of large numbers of Cray-fish is proof of the purity of the water in all three pools.
The pools are stocked on a regular basis with Shasta Rainbow Trout from Bibury Trout Farm, these fish are renowned for their fighting qualities. The Average weight is 2.9 lbs and the record to-date is 18lbs 4ozs. There are considerable numbers of Brown Trout in the Lodge and Walton Pools, between 3lbs and 6 lbs in weight. These must be returned if hooked.
There are food facilities with free tea and coffee on a self-service basis, a micro-wave, T.V. and barbecue for the convenience of anglers as well as restroom facilities. Pools are accessible to wheelchair users via casting platforms.
A fridge is provided to store fish in and Fly tying equipment is available for sale or hire.
Wildlife at the fishery
Bransford Game Fisheries is home to a wealth of wildlife including rare Water voles, fresh water crayfish, Black swans and the Jungle cock bred at the fishery for fly tying. The cock birds are in their prime during the winter and visitors are welcome to come and visit the aviaries during this time.
The Fishery was featured on the front page of Trout Fisherman in February 1999, together with a very complimentary write-up and account of the ancillary activities, including the breeding of Jungle Fowl, the cock hackle feathers of which are much sought-after by fly tyers internationally.
